Vatican denies tweaking Bible as part of cover-up
With thanks to @ross_owen for the pic.

I read somewhere once (I still have the text saved, though the website’s now gone) that that precise passage (the non satirical version of course), if translated correctly, uses a word meaning ‘young boys’ where ‘mankind’ was used. So it’s outlawing paedophilia, not homosexuality.
I checked this out with my husband (who speaks Hebrew), and he told me the Hebrew word (זָכָר ) really does mean “man” or “male” (not “young boy”)
Too bad, huh! I admit, I liked your way of thinking about it.
Many people (me included) want the Bible to say things that are fundamentally tolerant and kind, sweet and understanding – but the fact is, many times that’s not the case.
In the same way, many people also want the laws of kashrut to make some kind of sense that we can understand – to be rooted in the laws of hygiene, for instance – but that isn’t the case either.
Many Biblical rules and ideas came from a world that was so far distant from our own that we just can’t figure them out.
